It’s been a while since I blogged. I was hoping for something exciting to write about. I have been working on the same two five minute sequences that I started on my first week. Basically, what I’ve been doing is listening to what the subject in the video is saying and then creating a PowerPoint style text to overlay onto the footage. This text was created in Photoshop. I did not expect to spend so much of my time working with text, however this was among my greatest weaknesses. I have learned a great deal about text and also the timing of bullets coming onto the screen, not just at the right second, but in the right frame.

Hello Everybody,

      This past week I began helping Joe Goforth on a “rush job”.  We had a three day seminar that was shot before the beginning of this semester with dual cameras.  About 25hrs of video for each camera. We broke this down into three main parts Day 1, Day 2, Day 3.  Then these we divided each of these into individual parts, based on the topic and the speaker.

I was assigned Day One which Joe had a good start on.  My first step was to select the camera views, cut out unnecessary footage and then clean up the audio.  After this I created the titles.  The next step was to convert the final sequences to the proper formats for the web and DVD. I finished up by creating the labels to be printed on the DVDs.

They’re keeping me busy and I’m learning a lot.

Finished up one of my editing projects, I will start recording and editing an audio project this coming week.  I will also be filming a Hispanic Week celebration soon.  Learning lots and having fun!

I started my new position this week.  I am working for the AACC Instructional Media and Graphics Department at the college.  Tuesday was my first day.  The morning was busy learning my way around.  I had the chance to get familiar with the equipment; learning the proper start up procedures, how to use it and and evening shutdown procedures.  Everything looks pretty straight forward and I think I won’t have any problems getting used to how things work.

I logged onto my workstation and fired up the software.  It is the same software I have been using but the personal preferences are set a bit different so the look and feel is just a bit different that I am familiar with.  I got to explore and find the locations of the files I will be working with.  All in all, a busy morning.

In the afternoon I was given my first assignment.  I worked on some video footage from a professor’s seminar and began editing it into a finished video to be used for online coursework.  As that was a rush job one of the regular staff members took over that assignment and I began working on a series of Best Practices video for the AACC staff.  I am very familiar with this process and don’t expect to have any problems.

Thursday was spent working on my project and settling in.  Everyone in the department has been very helpful and welcoming.  I am enjoying being there.

The department head has been out of town this week and will return next week.  When he returns we will sit down together to define my goals for the time I will be with them.

Wednesday night I sent off my resume to three different jobs.  The next day the AACC Video Department called and asked me to come in for an interview on Friday. 

I met with the three guys from the department.  The interview went great.  I felt very relaxed, I felt like I was able to talk their language.  By the end of the meeting they decided that there was no need to call me later since they were ready to offer me the job,  if I wanted it. 

So, I am starting to work for them tomorrow.  I will be working two days a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays.  I have no idea what I will be doing. 

Tomorrow we will be working out my goals and I will be getting started on the new job.
